We feed sprouts as our main supplement. We make our own sprout mix by going to Whole Foods and buying hulled sunflower seeds, millet, wild rice, mung beans, buckwheat, horse oats-from feed store, and other items that look tempting and easy to sprout. We adapt the Bob Nelson sprouting directions..

    sprouts

Soak-N-Cook (from Cuttlebone Plus (760/591-4951). Cover and soak the soak-n-cook overnight. Bring to a boil and cook at a low boil for at least 45 minutes the next morning. The soybeans must be well cooked. This mixture will keep in the refrigerator 3 to 4 days. It should be offered fresh daily. If your bird is in a warm room, remove the soak-n-cook at night. Fed about once a week.

Roudybush is available from Old World Aviaries in Austin at wholesale prices for breeders, Tomlinson's Feed in Austin or call Roudybush at 800/326-1726. We feed mini, small, medium and large pellets depending upon species. Our birds prefer Zupreme Fruit Blend.
Fresh fruit and vegetables: Our babies are used to corn, kale, beets, sweet potatoes, peas, beans, carrots, apples, hot peppers, oranges, and rice fed in differing amounts and varieties shredded or chopped with food processor. We have fresh millet on play stand and in cage as well. We also have begun to sprout seed. Do not feed avocado, chocolate, or caffeine.  Whole Foods OR Local Grocery Store
Other treats may include: almonds, walnuts, pecans, human-grade peanuts, acorns, hazelnuts--all in small limited quantities. Lafaber's Parrot-sized or smaller Nutriberries. Corn on the cob. Oatmeal.
We also feel toys are very important part of socialization and learning to entertain themselves while alone in their cage or on their playpens.
Each breeder and pet owner, have their individual opinions on diets and toys, There are many interesting web sites, as well as publications, e.g., Bird Talk Magazine, Parrots, Bird Times, and books by individual publishing companies. Take time to read and research for your individual species and life style. There too many to pretend to list them all, but here are a few sites:
